Although Minnesota was originally inhabited by Indigenous people, they only account for 1.1 of the state's population today according to the United States Census Bureau. At the same time, they also account for 12% of the state's homeless population. They are an underrepresented marginalized minority with limited political power in the state.

These photographs were taken during a Not Your Mascot Victory Dance in downtown Minneapolis. The week before the Washington Redskins, an NFL team, announced they would no longer use 'Redskins' in their name. The
football team has been the target of protests since the 1960's for using a racist slur as their team name. While the event was celebratory, speakers called on the other sports teams like the Braves, Indians, Chiefs, and Blackhawks to change their names.
